Sunday School

A word from the Sunday School Superintendent

You know sometimes I wonder if we really understand the concept of the fact that Jesus is coming back for us.

Let me relate a story to you about my family.  They are what I know –hence I use them for illustration.  My son had to go and work away from home for a month and a week he did not see his little family-not once during this time.  Now he had been away on “Details” before but usually 3 to 5 days at the most. Also, added to this was the fact they had just moved to a new state and new city—so they had no family and no friends to rely on.  So this was a trial for all of them.  The first week was okay –the 2nd week was tolerable. But the longer he was gone the more the heart longed to see each other.  Now his little ones are 4 and 3-- such a cute age.  The 3 year old would say “Daddy at work” and go on and play.  But the 4 year old she became quite concerned and about 3 weeks into this little adventure she announced to her mommy that “Daddy needs to come home and eat and sleep” she understood the work thing but she could not understand him not coming home at all at the end of the day and was concerned “Daddy” was not getting his sleep or his food. Of course Mommy was very lonely and would call and talk to this mother-in-law and that made me feel special.  Then came the day Daddy was driving home and would be there by middle afternoon.  The 4 year old thought she should stay home from school so she could greet Daddy immediately on arrival.  There were signs to make and of course German chocolate cake to make (Daddy’s favorite).  Oh, it was very exciting that day Daddy came home and took them all in his arms and hugged and loved on each one.  Do you see the correlation?

Now back to Jesus coming back for us.  What do you think?  Are we looking forward with great anticipation to that day?  Are we getting the signs and cake ready?  Is our heart ready are we sharing the good news with others –Are we helping and encouraging others that Jesus is really coming for us?

We have Sunday School every Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m. and the teachers are ready and waiting—what are you waiting for?  Come on—there is so much to learn and share!  We look forward to seeing you with great anticipation.  You are loved!

I am so blessed to be “Grammy” to four beautiful children.  My daughter, Kristy, has to beautiful brunettes Brecken and Brelynn ages 13 and 10.  Then my son, Matt, has a girl and boy ages 4 and 2 that are blondes.  They are so much fun.  I love to have them over to stay the night when they are here visiting.  The blondes were here a few weeks ago and they stayed all night along with Brelynn (one of the brunettes).  We had a great time and the next morning we got up and went to church.  Now Abby (little blondie) is 4 and she wanted to go to her Sunday School class—Ian (2) did not! So he walked around as I delivered each class folder and then picked them up.  He asked why (he is not quite 3—will be in September)—so why is one of his favorite questions.  Anyway, he asked why we were picking up the folders and I said to take them to Great Nannie (Shirley Ibsen) so she could write down everything.  So we walked around to the North Hall and there were lots of folders—he begins to run down the hall and pickup as many folders as he can.  He drops them and then begins to hand them to me two at a time.  He turns around to me and says “I have to take these folders to Great Nannie—it will make her so happy!”

That made me think of how the Lord must feel when instead of carrying all our cares around we take them to Him! I feel like Ian said only I say “I have to take these cares to God and leave them there and that will make my Heavenly Father so happy!”

We have some of the greatest teachers here at First Assembly and they are just waiting for you.  Won’t you join us this Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m.—you’ll enjoy it and I feel certain our Heavenly Father will be so happy!

See you there!

Have you ever considered how blessed you are?  I mean how really blessed you are! Last Sunday was Father’s Day and when the “Holy Momma” aka Jan Knight called all the Father’s to come down to the front of the church—I started to cry.  Those men—those are our leaders—the head of our households—the priest of our homes—Godly men—taking a stand in a day and age where there is a lot of gray.  Men who stand by their women and children through thick and thin. Men who work hard and desire to provide for their families.  Men who say “I will not give up, give in or turn back—I am pressing on to the mark of the high calling!”  Men who stand up and say “Jesus is Lord of my life, my family, my career and my time.”  We are truly blessed. In the Bible it says we are created in His image.  Can you image how proud the Lord was as all those men took a stand and walked down front.  To think of a father’s love for his children and then to know that God loves us more than our own earthly fathers—it is so hard to fathom that kind of love. Yet we have the assurance that God loves us no matter what and He forgives and forgets.  Wow!  Talk about being blessed—WE ARE BLESSED!

I want to invite you to Sunday School this Sunday at 9:00 a.m.  We have such great classes for the children and adults.  Come Join us.  The  Word of God says to train up a  child in the way they should go—you know to a mother her child is always her child no matter the age—so you are never to old.  God’s Word does not return void.  He is faithful!  Greater is He (the Lord) who is in me than he that is in the world.  Praise God!  Great things He has done.  Come be blessed!  We need you and we will be looking for you.  You are a blessing!

Once a year we get to recognize the Mom’s in each of our lives.  As I watched all the activity in Children’s church Sunday to get everyone to make a Mother’s Day gift I was astounded by the desire for each one to make the craft so Mom would have a gift.  The children were very excited and the adults were trying to instruct on how to make the gift.  But what got my attention was the excitement of making a gift for Mom. In the Bible it says He goes to prepare a place for us.  I like to think that there is all kinds of excitement and activity going on—while He prepares a place for us.  Can you imagine?  The angels are all in an excited atmosphere-darting here and there as everything is prepared for us.  WOW! Over and over in the Bible it says to Praise the Lord, to Bless the Lord at all time, to exalt the Lord as King of Kings and Lord of Lords— you know even when troubles come if we could just do that— just imagine the excitement that goes on in heaven. I know  that when trouble comes if I will just start Praising the Lord and let go of the problem,  the Lord fills me with such excitement—that I feel like those kids did creating their Mother’s Day gifts—until I am bubbling over with excitement and anticipation of the gift I am giving to my Lord and Saviour.

We have great teachers with a love to teach.  Come on-- don’t you want to know what is going on in Sunday School—GREAT THINGS are going on.  And you know what? WE  NEED YOU!  Really we do.  So this is a special invitation to join us every Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m.  Once you’ve tried it you’ll be hooked-- I just know you will be!

 See you Sunday!

Have you heard of "Providence?" Yes, I know it is the name of a city and a show on T.V. But I am talking about the providence of God. Did you know it's not just by chance you are at this website reading this article? God ordained it. They say you can't see Providence except by hindsight. If you look back you can see the provision God has made for your life. He directed you to this moment.  We at First Assembly believe in SUNDAY SCHOOL and I'm excited about it. Years ago we did a big promotion called, "Everybody ought to go to Sunday School." Let me tell you it still rings in my ears. God's Word is wonderful. Did you know God says in His Word He will supply your every need? The Lord is your sheperd, you shall not want. He also tells us He will never leave us nor forsake us. The Lord loves us so much He gave His only son Christ Jesus for our sins. The Word of God tells us how to live. The joy of the Lord is our strength. By His stripes you are healed! Praise God! Isn't that exciting? I want to personally invite you to First Assembly of God this Sunday-9:00 AM for Sunday School. I know that's early, but you'll be so glad you came. I just know it. We have great teachers! Let me tell you they are ready to teach. Come on what do you have to loose? Nothing- so we'll see you this Sunday at 9:00 AM.

Jesus loves you & so do we~
